-ABSENCES positively mean failing the class. Attendance mandatory to all lectures and sections. More than 2 unexcused absences (combination lecture and/or section) will result in failing the course. Two lates, equal 1 absence. Excused absence only with proper documentation. If I notice you texting, leaving early, or not paying attention you will either be marked late or absent for the day depending on the severity of the situation.

-Being LATE is unacceptable and disrespectful to me and the class. If you come in after attendance is called, it is your responsibility to see me after class to let me know of your late arrival. Otherwise you will remain marked absent. At lectures, it is also your responsibility to make sure I receive the attendance slip at the end of class.

-ASSIGNMENTS are to be completed in full to the best of your ability. Be brave, creative, think outside of the box, push your self to things you've never done or experienced before, meditate on your ideas, be critical, take your time maturing your concept and realizing it. STRIVE for professional work - in conception, execution, presentation and documentation.

DOCUMENTATION:
-Projects, assignments, an exercises should be documented in your weekly blog/journal entries. While web or low resolution image embedding/linking/sharing is acceptable, be sure to maintain and backup all higher resolution files. At the end of the quarter, I will request a disk of your high-res portfolio when considering the breadth of your work, progress, growth, etc. You are responsible for burning a CD/DVD disk that has all work turned in for the class in HIGH RESOLUTION with corresponding statements, concept notes, etc.

-Journal Entries are due daily by 8PM. Each week will contain 7 daily entries (announced at Tuesday a the beginning of class) and 2 additional entries documenting projects (see above) and an art event review. Every Monday entry will be a response to Kip's lecture. Try and have dynamic blogs with links to outside sources, embedded pictures, videos, etc! Make the entries no less than 200 words and ENGAGING!

-SECTIONS will consist of group activities, exercises, discussions, critiques, in-class work time, etc each week.

-GROUP CRITIQUE is where you will give and receive feedback (constructive criticism) and that the artist documents the comments and suggestions about his or her project(s). This activity will enhance creativity, skill, and understanding of the art making/happening process in general. Art critiques are not an attack on the artist or the work. It is a practice implemented to give useful criticism, to deconstruct the object/event and so the artist can evaluate progress and learn practical solutions to perceived deficiencies. MISSING A CRIT OR EXERCISE DAY RESULTS IN A 0 GRADE FOR THE DAY.

-There is a lot of FREEDOM in the approach you are to take for the assignments; most media can be used (traditional art making, installation, video, sound recordings, performance-spoken word). Always run your ideas through me! I am here to help and push your art practice!!! Remember to think smarter, not harder.

-Your BLOG is a class requirement which I will review frequently. If you have opted for a physical JOURNAL, we will have to work out alternative review strategies (yet to be determined). Through this process you will explore ideas, take class/lecture notes, and document your research for class projects, future projects, and homework. Make sure every entry is dated. Also, document critical responses of your studio projects in it. Draw, sketch, paint, collage using any media you like is encouraged to be incorporated/scanned and uploaded. Write, write, write... introspection with a critical attitude. Incorporate images/links/postcards from art shows, art magazines clippings, or any image that intrigues you and informs your art making process. You can document art shows, and your feelings about artists that appeal to you. Reviews of attended guest speakers (1C lectures, Digital Media Series, etc). Reviews of galleries and museums (on and off campus) Make it fun!!!

-Successful class PARTICIPATION entails active participation in critiques of classmates work, discussions, attentiveness, productivity in in-class work days, etc)
