Fearless Leader(s) 2007-2008
In 1998, Sarah Barnes reformed the Gaucho Pep Band.
Her duties as manager, conductor, coordinator, attendance taker,
recruiter, and sole-person-that-told-the-band-they-sounded-good
led band members to address her with the dubious title "Fearless Leader". In the years that followed, no
single person has shouldered all these responsibilities. Now,
one
could argue that
no single person has since earned the right to be called "Fearless
Leader". However, for the sake of tradition, the Gaucho Pep Band bestows this
shell-of-a-name on whomever regularly stands in front of them and flaps
his or (more likely) her arms.

The President is responsible for all the important things that need to be done in order to
run a band (other than flapping arms). Lots of things the President
does, most band members never hear about. Conversely, much of the
things band members do, probably should have been done by the President.

Band Freshman 2008-2009
To be
eligible for the position of Band Freshman one must:

Be in the
Gaucho Pep Band,
-
Be a first
year student at UCSB,

Be able to
attend most Pep Band functions,

Be cool, and
-
Be able to
travel in the post season.

(Optional,
but recommended) Be a brass player
One of the chief duties of Band Freshman is to ensure the comfortable
flow of Gaucho Band
"events" and prohibit unnecessary littering or
loitering. Band Freshman must also learn all the rules to the
games the Gaucho Band plays and remember them long enough to teach the
next year's Band Freshman. An interesting statistic is that of the
past three years, two of the people who have been Band Freshman have
ended up as a Band Leader. As an added bonus, Band Freshman gets the honor of having his or her picture posted on the Internet!
