EXPERIENCE


2008-present

Archaeologist, Naval Facilities Engineering Command
Southwest

Responsibilities include: project management of cultural resource studies on federal lands; ensure compliance with federal laws and regulatory policies relevant under the National Historic Preservation Act; provide technical assistance and quality assurance of contract services and deliverables. 


2004-present

Co-Director of the UCSB 4th Cataract Archaeological Salvage Project, Sudan (a concession of the Merowe Dam Archaeological Salvage Project)

Responsibilities include: managing project logistics; database development; directing survey, mapping and excavation. Investigative responsibilities include analysis of prehistoric materials and co-authoring publications.

 

2005-present

Field Director of Geophysical Survey for the UCSB Tombos Archaeological Project, Sudan

Responsibilities included: planning and coordination of geophysical surveys using multi-frequency electromagnetic induction (EMI) and vertical seismic profiling (VSP); post acquisition 3D data processing and analysis.

 

2005
Assistant Coordinator of the Central Coast Information Center, Santa Barbara, CA
Duties included: Providing information and documentation of known sites and previous archaeological surveys and reports; management of site records and reports archive and database; management of maps and mapped information.


2003 - 2004  

District Archaeologist, Los Padres National Forest, Santa Barbara, CA

Archaeological specialist overseeing Heritage Resources for the Santa Barbara and Ojai Ranger Districts of the Los Padres National Forest. Responsibilities included: Operational management of archeological projects concerned with the preservation and management of cultural resources in areas of public works; identification, evaluation, and classification of resources and resource needs; technical assistance, consultation, and procedural supervision of archeological studies, programs and resource management/protection. Involved with planning and development of archeological/heritage resources program policy.

 

2002

Field supervisor/Geophysical Survey Specialist, Joint UCLA - Manchester University Domuz Tepe Archaeological Project in Karanmanmaras, Turkey

Geophysical specialist for the joint UCLA/University of Manchester archaeological project at Domuztepe, southeast Turkey. Geophysical techniques included magnetic (Cesium magnetometer) and multi-frequency electromagnetic induction (EMI). Responsibilities included planning and coordination of surveys, supervision of survey personnel and post acquisition data processing and analysis.

 

2001

Project Planner/Field Technician, EDAW (formerly KEA Environmental), San Diego, CA

Tasks and responsibilities included: project planning; geophysical consultation; testing and monitoring of Late Pleistocene/Early Holocene terrestrial and maritime (offshore) sites located along the southern California coast.

 

2000

Field Supervisor/Geophysical Survey Specialist, University of California, Santa Barbara, CA

Member of a field research team carrying out geophysical surveys and excavation in south-central Peru. Responsibilities included: supervision of excavation personnel; GIS data management; coordination of geophysical magnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPS) surveys.

 

1999-2000

Associate Archaeologist/Digital Mapping Specialist, Gallegos & Associates, San Diego, CA

Responsibilities included: development and management of the digital mapping section using GIS and GPS survey systems; maintaining contact with clients and support personnel; production of report materials. Also involved in conventional survey, testing, excavation and monitoring. Received special training in soils and soils management concerned with local geologic and hydrologic issues.
