RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am interested in the "self-conscious emotions": shame, guilt, embarassment, pride, etc. My research involves investigation of the roles that these emotions play in cooperative relationships. I am currently examining how individual differences in the tendency to experience guilt and/or shame after an injury or defection are related to the social relationships the individual has with others: do variations in social status, level of social support, and formidability account for variations in guilt/shame-proneness?
