Hi. Welcome to my website.

My name is Nicki Lisa Cole, and I'm a doctoral candidate in Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Through this website you can learn about my interests and my work. You'll find here a description of my dissertation research, links to some of my written work, and my curriculum vitae. Students of mine can access course syllabi and information about the courses they are enrolled in.

My interest in sociology is captured by the following questions: How does knowledge flow through society and our minds? What do these flows look like? What shapes them, prods them along, or halts them?

I am curious about these things because what we know, and what we believe to be true or not true, bears significant consequences in our own lives, and in the lives of others throughout society and across the globe.

These questions and ideas become more interesting and complicated when we consider how knowledge interacts with inequalities in society. What do knowledge and race have to do with each other? What happens to knowledge when it interacts with the structures and systems of capitalism? What does knowledge have to do with power?

These questions and ideas compose my motivation to study society. They are the basis for what I research, what I teach, and how I live my life.
