The Krypton Site

The webpage that I selected is called the Krypton Site. The sites main objective is to inform users about the television show Smallville. The show takes place in a small rural town, which bears striking resemblance to Kansas. The main narrative of the show is telling the tale of the legendary Superman, aka Clark Kent. Predominantly concentrating on his life as a teenager, the viewer is given a front row seat to his journey to super-hero stratum. Forced to deal with his newly developing abilities and the social inadequacies that come with being a teen, we are given a window into his life. For fear he may endanger or be taken away those he is closest to, Clark is unable to share his secret. In his search for discovering the truth about his origins, he is also confronted by his long dead biological father Jor- rel. Told that he was sent to earth to rule with an iron fist, Clark continually refuses to obey his fathers wishes, for he only aspires to help those in need.

For fans of the show, the website can be an extremely useful tool. The main home page could use some work in terms of layout, but still serves its purpose. Upon entering the site, you are presented with the option of reading any details relating to past and present shows. This information is titled ‘spoilers’, and definetly could be considered a highlighted feature of the site. The speculation of future plots and store narratives are usually composed of gossip and here –say; but probably 90-85 percent of the time, the sites sources seem to quit reliable. Fans also have the option of speaking with other admirers of the show, though chat rooms and message boards. Journals entries from main characters and biographies of the stars that play them are also provided. You could also view subjects such as interviews, future and past episode descriptions, rumors, forums, and music from the show. There’s also a link called ‘Store’, that leads you to paraphernalia relating to the show.

In conclusion the site appears to be a more then adequate resource, especially for fans of the show. As an admirer, I myself frequent the page; reading its latest speculations, premiere dates and possible character developments. I’ve always had a fascination with super-heroes and at times lose myself in their logic; desperately trying to apply the laws of my reality to their own. I’m perfectly aware that isn’t real, but there is a part of me that truly doesn’t care. Fantasies are healthy in moderation.
