Time
A Combined Analysis of the Thematics of Time Present in
"The Four Qaurtets" by T.S. Eliot
and "The Garden of Forking Paths" by Jorge Luis Borges
By Peter Joseph Potash
All through my life I have been interested in abstract ideas whose specific natures are unable to be direcly pinpointed and lead to one's own personal interpretation. These subject matters include the ideas of morality, death, love, and time. This curiosity of mine to learn about these ideas has lead me to a love of literature, wherein the author comments upon these issues and presents his or her own point-of-view. This is the main reason I have decided to pursue English academically, however recent the love is; I didn't discover this curiosity until the beginning of my Juinor year in high school. It is my hope that this website, for those newer to these notions, will discover the beauty in abstraction and imagination present in not only these two pieces, but in literature in general.

I first encounteres T.S Eliot's poetry in the Fall of Senior year when reaing "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrok." I went on to read more of his poetry and soon discovered the beauty of "The Four Quartets." This poem has provided me with many assertions to contemplate and is one of the two pieces I analyze on this site.
"The Garden of Forking Paths," by Jorge Luis Borges, contrastingly, is a piece I recently read for an English class, Fall quarter of my Freshman year. I immidietly realized the aspects of time that Borges discusses with this work, and took an interest in this work.
These two men present different views of time in their work, and so this website analyzes these views and compares them, noting similarity and dissimilarity. I have decided to break up the website into these three different pages:
