Laser Treatment for Acne
Teenagers may be painted in movies and television shows as happy go lucky adolescents with no cares in the world, glamorous, fashionable and hardly have any problems except those associated with dating.
Of course we know that this Hollywood interpretation of teens is hardly correct or an exact representation of reality. We as teenagers may bask delight in the wonders and opportunities that are presented to the youth but it does not mean that we do not have any problems.
I am a student and believe me when I say that students have a whole world of pain and problems that they have to constantly address when it comes to academics and with the difficult assimilation into a social life in college. Studying in order to get good grades and wrestling with tight academic deadlines is a big issue for us students. But, even in the social front, we also have difficulties. Puberty brings along with it an explosion of hormones that wreck havoc on the body. Our most stubborn problem is acne. Some adults may take this lightly but acne is a really big problem for adolescents. Severe acne cannot only lower a person’s self esteem, if left untreated it can leave deep scars that will definitely affect a person’s self confidence in social situations. I know this because I myself suffer from acne. It is a difficult condition to have because you feel trapped by your own body and the stares that some people give you is enough to make you want to just go home, lock the door and never come out.
This is why I am very glad that advances in the treatment of acne scars is making it possible for acne sufferers to have a future that is free from the embarrassment caused by these scars.
Acne Laser Treatment
One of the latest developments in treating scars associated with acne is acne laser treatment. This type of treatment uses lasers to remove old skin so that new skin can develop. Laser treatment for acne is a relatively new procedure but even though only a few studies have been done on this, laser treatment of acne scars is showing a lot of promise because the actual treatment penetrates into the skin with a fine degree of control that even the depth is uniform -- a far departure from other more conventional methods of treating acne scars.
Growing professional support growing for laser acne treatment
A growing number of dermatologists are now espousing acne treatments with laser light because of the very impressive results that they have seen with patients who undergo the procedure. They are also impressed with the relatively fast procedure – which can take just a few minutes for people who only need work on a small area on their face. Larger affected areas for treatment will require an hour or more, which is still relatively acceptable.
Currently doctors use either of two different types of lasers depending on their preference – CO2 laser and the erbium laser. At this point, there is still no conclusive research being done regarding which one of these lasers is more effective.
If you are interested in undergoing laser treatment for your acne scars, it would be a good idea to read up on the subject of acne as well as the laser treatment so that you can have a better idea of what the procedure does and also be armed with more information when discussing the procedure with your dermatologist.
