Through his observation and interactions with his coworkers, Archie the robot becomes human. He is designed specifically to interact but his co workers are not interested in talking with him; instead they exploit him for work. When they do talk to him, they behave negatively, toying with their control over him. He also observes the pettiness of human behavior: a nerdy co worker,Bob and his desire to be popular and included by his co workers and the attractive insecure co workers who think that they are superior to every one else. He is told by Bob, his only friend, that there is more than life to work and he needs to live a little. One night when he is left on, he discovers there is a female robot working in the building across the way. He realizes through watching this girl night after night that there is really more than work in life and his thoughts start to become more cohesize and less controlled. He finally breaks down, rejects the control of his work and goes to meet the girl robot and they begin to have sexual intercourse in front of all their coworkers. Archie finds someone that he can communicate with and that truly understands him. Bob realizes that Archie is able to live life in a way that he himself is incapable because of his own insecurities and much more free than he can ever be.
