Other academic distinctions:

·      Obtained 88.2% in Karnataka State 10th Standard Board Exams (in 1998) finishing within 5% of the class

·      Obtained 91.2% in Karnataka State Pre-University (12th) Board Exams (in 2000) finishing within 2% of the class

·      Secured 44th rank (< 0.001%) in Engineering stream and 21st rank (< 0.001%) in Medical stream in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (in 2000) for professional education amongst more than 200,000 students.

·      Obtained a GRE score of 1450 (Quantitative – 800, Verbal – 650) & 4.5 and a TOEFL score of 108 in October 2007

Academic Projects:

·      BE Major project: “Fixed point conversion and implementation of Internet Low Bit rate Codec (iLBC) on C55x” under the guidance of Prof. Sumam David (ECE Dept. NITK Surathkal), Dr. Ajit Rao (head, MM codecs group, TI India) and Mr. C. V. Goudar (MM codecs group, TI India). The royalty free iLBC speech codec was predestined to gain popularity and this project involved preparing the codec for an actual application. Thus involving fixed point conversion of the original Float code released by IETF, optimization of the codec to reduce its WMOPS to optimal levels and improving the Packet Loss Concealment algorithm. The results of the project were presented at the TIDC India, December 2003.

·      Mini project:”Development of JPEG image decoder”. The project involved implementation of various modules of the JPEG decoder. The objective was to understand how a multi-media standard is implemented in a high level language and was aimed at initiating us to the Major Project.

Experience:

Worked at Ittiam Systems (P) Ltd Bangalore from June 2004 to August 2008 as a Senior Engineer in the Audio Team of the Media Processing Business Unit. Ittiam is a special company focused solely on developing DSP systems with capabilities in all its aspects and with a business model of revenue generation from royalties of DSP-IP licensing.

Projects undertaken:

·      Audio codecs development: These projects involved understanding of the codec, conversion to fixed point, algorithmic optimization of key modules, platform specific optimization of the key modules and making the component’s memory usage and interface suitable for embedded systems. The codecs which were developed so were, HEAAC decoder, HEAAC v2 decoder, HEAAC multi-channel decoder and MP3 decoder.

·      Audio effects development: These projects involved understanding the requirements of the post-processing, research of different algorithms possible for these, implementation of the algorithms, verification of performance with respect to quality & performance and finally choosing the best algorithms. These algorithms too were made memory efficient with interfaces suitable for embedded systems. The projects undertaken so were of Spectrum Analyzer, Time Scale Modifier, Re-sampler and a non-trivial Karaoke module.

·      Platform specific audio codec development: These projects involved understanding of the platform, modification of the codecs algorithm to optimally utilize the platform resources and even hand assembly coding to achieve competitive performance numbers. The development undertaken so were; MP3 decoder, HEAAC v2 decoder and HEAAC v2 encoder on Tensilica Xtensa HiFi2 AudioEngine; MP3 decoder, HEAAC v2 decoder and HEAAC multi-channel decoder on TI C64x; HEAAC v2 decoder on Broadcom VC02.

·      Development process standardization: This effort was targeted at standardizing different aspects of audio algorithm developments which included the application programmers interface (API), usage of basic operation & variable type definitions in the fixed point algorithms, customer release package & release documents standardization and adoption policies of non-Ittiam API standards like TI xDM.

·      Miscellaneous: There were also a slew of miscellaneous activities done like

o   Developing a audio-video playout demo on a TI OMAP board

o   Development of Winamp plugins for our audio components to be released for PC based evaluation,

o   Conducting training for fresh engineers at Ittiam in Signals & Systems, Transforms, Matlab, Batch Scripting and TI C64x coding

o   Attending relevant workshops and conferences.

Other Activities:

·      Playing Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton and Cricket

·      Secured several prizes in Hardware design contests in Institute-technical fests.

·      Secretary of the college Rotaract Club in final year B.E. As a part of Rotaract Club organized and participated in many Blood donation camps, cultural and fun events at the college.

·      Convener of the Technical festival (TARANG 2004) conducted by the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department in final year B.E.
